Introduction

Cheng Mei Materials Technology Corporation (CMMT) upholds the spirit of “Enthusiasm, love, dedication”to reshape our corporate spirit, forge team spirit, create a high-performance workplace, and generate corporate values, thereby becoming a socially responsible corporation.

For the employees, the company’s sustainability signifies that they can live in peace and enjoy their work; for the shareholders, it represents their investments can continue to generate profits; for the creditors, it acts as debt security; for the customers, they will benefit from steady supply. Business sustainability is a responsibility towards the stakeholders and the core value of CMMT.

CMMT takes into reference the Responsible Business Alliance (RBA) Code of Conduct, and our sustainability strategy encompasses 5 major policy directions (corporate governance, environmental protection, employee care, supply chain social and environmental responsibility management, and community engagement) that were implemented since 2005 in a bid to bolster our CSR efforts. The company upholds technology autonomy, environmental protection, safety, and health as the goal. We strive to achieve zero pollution and zero accidents so that our employees can work in a safe environment, as well as pursue the objective of happiness and sustainable development.

 

Environment 

 

 

SDGs 7.2: Installed 1,168kW rooftop renewable energy generation equipment, generating approximately 1.155 million kWh in 2022.

SDGs 13.3: In efforts to reduce environmental impacts during operations, Cheng Mei Materials continues to allocate resources for pollution prevention. The total greenhouse gas emissions in Scope 1 and Scope 2 decreased by 1,660 metric tons of CO2 equivalent in 2022 compared to 2021.

 

 

Social 

SDGs 1.1: Donated tablet computers to bridge the digital learning gap in remote areas.

SDGs 3.9: Conducted safety promotion activities (including education and training on fire safety, respiratory protection, machinery safety, and the labeling of hazardous substances), with a total participation of 423 individuals and a total duration of 2,048 hours.

SDGs 4.3: Organized Cheng Mei Dreamer programs to deepen the connection between students and the practical aspects of academia and industry, cultivating talented individuals with a balance of academic and practical skills.

SDGs 8.2: Cheng Mei Materials actively creates economic value for stakeholders, with a consolidated revenue of NT$9.49 billion, an annual net profit of NT$460 million, and a gross profit margin of 8.18% in 2022.

 

 

Governance 

SDGs 9.4: Cheng Mei Materials continually pursues innovation in products and technology to implement competitive advantages, resulting in 1 invention application, 2 utility model applications, and 9 utility model approvals in 2022.

SDGs 16.5: Continuously strengthening corporate governance structure and operations, actively preventing dishonest behavior, and establishing a sound system of internal controls, internal audits, and anti-corruption, ensuring ethical business operations and anti-corruption governance.

SDGs 17.16: Cheng Mei Materials values corporate sustainable performance and actively collaborates with partners to improve together.

 

 

 

 

 

Management guideline

1. Compliance obligations: Comply with the government’s environmental protection and occupational health and safety regulations (as well as requirements by other stakeholders), fulfill our corporate social responsibilities.

2. Total participation: Establish a consultation and participation mechanism, continue to communicate with workers to promote their consultation and participation, provide environmental protection as well as safety and health education training and resources, and all employees participate in the implementation of the environmental safety and health management system to assume their responsibilities.

3. Environmental protection: Introduce environmental protection design concepts during the product life cycle, apply the latest production technologies to reduce material consumption and waste, and effectively utilize energy resources or minimize the environmental impact caused during product activities and services.

4. Risk control: Promote a culture of organizational support for the results of the Occupational Health and Safety Management System. Effective management, maintenance of a safe and healthy workplace, eliminating hazards, and reducing occupational health risks can prevent occupational hazards and diseases.

5. Improve performance: Establish and implement target management programs across all departments, and continue to communicate environmental protection, occupational safety, and health issues to contractors and outsourcers for the sake of bolstering environmental safety and health performance.

6. Ongoing improvement: Through regular audits on management, environmental safety, and health management reviews, the aim is to lower the environmental impact and risk of hazards caused by the company’s products and services.

International standard certification

The ISO 14001 standards are established by the International Organization for Standardization to regulate environmental management systems. They not only represent a new environmental protection system but also explicitly define an organization's corporate responsibility towards the environment.

 

All our facilities, including the CMMT Tainan Plant and Ningbo Subsidiary Plant, adhere to the ISO 14001:2015 and ISO 45001:2018 standards to establish environmental management systems. These systems are continuously verified by third parties to track emission reduction effectiveness and are publicly disclosed. In terms of the use of major raw materials, we fully comply with RoHS regulations and also prohibit the use of hazardous substances specified in directives during production to reduce environmental impact.

 

CMMT passed the ISO 14001:2015 third-party recertification in 2023, with a validity period from January 23, 2023, to January 22, 2026. Additionally, it obtained the ISO 45001:2018 new version certification, valid from January 23, 2023, to January 22, 2026.

 

Subsidiary Ningbo CMMT Technology Co., Ltd. obtained the ISO 14001:2015 new version certification in 2022, valid from October 9, 2022, to February 2, 2024. It also acquired the ISO 45001:2018 new version certification, valid from January 14, 2023, to January 14, 2026.

 

Since 2010, we have conducted annual greenhouse gas inventories in accordance with ISO 14064-1 to track carbon reduction efforts.

 

CMMT obtained the third-party verification certificate ISO 14064-1:2018 greenhouse gas inventory verification statement from Taiwan BV International Quality Assurance Co., Ltd. in 2023 (certification validity period: January 1, 2022, to December 31, 2022).

 

CMMT obtained the third-party verification of the new version of ISO 14067 polarizing plate product carbon footprint from Taiwan BV International Quality Assurance Co., Ltd. in 2022 (carbon footprint assessment period: January 1, 2021, to December 31, 2021).

 

Ningbo CMMT obtained the third-party verification of the new version of ISO 14064-1:2018 greenhouse gas inventory from DNV GL Business Assurance (China) Co., Ltd. in 2022 (inventory period: January 1, 2023, to December 31, 2023).
